New Pattern Release: Introducing the Ulysses Trench Jacket!
I'm so excited to present the Ulysses pattern today! I've had this jacket in my sketchbook for a few years now, so I'm thrilled that it's finally here. It has quickly become an essential in my closet, and I've gotta say, it has also become my favorite pattern in the Victory Pattern line. Let me tell you a little bit about it!
For this jacket, I was inspired by classic trench coat styling. I wanted to keep this style light and simple, and with a bit more elegance than a typical trench. I've paired it down to it's traditional elements and introduced new shaping in the collar, rain guard, and hemline. These details lend a draped, flowing and elegant look to what is typically a more rigid style. You'll find clever details in the construction that make this a really gratifying project to sew. My favorite detail is the "belt loop" of all things. It's ever so small, but since it's the little things that count, I think it makes this style a bit extra special.
Other features include shoulder epaulettes, clean-lined, angled patch pockets with an upper flap, a center-back vent. I also wanted it to be appropriate for warmer days when you need something light to cover up with, so I've kept this style unlined and instead, opted for bias bound seams so that the jacket has a beautiful interior finish.
Let's take a closer look at Ulysses...
In this intermediate pattern, you'll explore several techniques, including:
- Vent
- Clean-lined patch pockets
- Shawl collar
- Bias-bound seams
- French seams
- Flat construction
- Set-in sleeve
Our last few releases have been PDF only, but I'm so excited to tell you that this pattern is also available in print! And I have another surprise for you. We've prepared two kits for the Ulysses Trench! After making the samples for our shoot, I decided that I needed to source this fabric for you because it turned out so beautifully! The kits include the most beautiful eco Lyocell fabric that is PERFECT for this style, along with everything you need to make the jacket. You can choose between two colours: Rust and Navy. It is available as a pre-order until June 22nd, so grab one while you can! Follow the link below for details.

How to sew a centered zipper
A centered zipper is one of the most usefull zippers to be able to sew. They are commonly used in skirts, dresses, and pants, as well as cushion covers and handbags. In this tutorial, we'll show you how to sew a centered zipper using directional sewing, which avoids the fabric from shifting in different directions once the zipper is sewn in.
