Josephine Kimberling's magic touch
I wanted to share some of the beautiful dresses made by the super talented fabric designer, Josephine Kimberling. Taking a look at through her gallery, you can see such a great variety of awesome sewing patterns made up of her beautiful fabric, including some from the Victory Patterns' collection.
It's pretty inspiring. I want to live in her world of florals, rainbow streamers, and soda pop! Here's a little peek at her versions. Hoooly mama! I'm in love with her version of Chloe! Give me mixed coordinate floral prints and day of the week. Feast your eyes, ladies!

Marimekko, with love
To celebrate my birthday, my best friend and I trotted off to the textile museum as they're having a Marimekko show. It's the depth of winter, and I've been longing for the colors of spring, and this show was more than a fix. I am so in love with the world that Marimekko built, their vision, consistency, approach to marketing, their contributions to fashion and industrial design, textiles and art, ALL of it!
Gorgeous, dahling!
I went on a vintage glass button hunt at the St.Lawrence Antique Market this weekend, and although I found some beauties, I came across these illustrations that were way more exciting! This set of hand-painted lithograph prints are from an old unknown catalog, and I flirted with the vendor so that he would let me take some photos (please tell me it was worth it)!
Anabela's wedding dress
I had the pleasure of working with Anabela from Fieldguided in creating her dream dress for her wedding, which took place this past September. When she asked me to make her dress, my heart started to race in a panic kind of way. I'm pretty accident-prone, so working with miles of delicate WHITE fabric is not something I trust myself with. Also, I'm a little bit scared of brides!
The memory project
Clothing can hold a meaning more profound than its original intended purpose of style or protection; it can tell stores of our past. "The Memory Project" is a beautiful art piece created by Anna Zygowski, who is a fashion and textile designer currently working on her masters in fashion design (awesome!!!). In this project, Anna shares intimate moments in the lives of her family through garments that they once wore. This storytelling takes place through incredible and nostalgic textile exploration.
Show and tell: A vintage drafting workbook
My amazing intern, Anna brings fascinating things to show me each time she arrives at the studio. The other day she brought along the most beautiful collection of vintage pattern drafting workbooks that she acquired online. They are exercise books created by a woman who attended a drafting school in Italy in the 1950's. The pages are as delicate as crisp leaves, and the care that went into making them is just admirable. I wanted to share a few pages because they are just gorgeous.
Thread drawings by Amanda McCavour
I was taking a stroll down in the Junction, a beautiful neighbourhood in Toronto, when I came across a store window installation that glowed with a fluorescent green light, and which made my jaw drop! Hanging from the ceiling were hundreds of beautiful and delicately sewn snowflake like medallions.
